Leonardo da Vinci was one of the brilliant scientific minds of his time. He was born in Vinci Italy, this small town can be found near Florence. Leonardo was a peace loving vegetarian who hated war. Yet, he was forced work by Cesare Borgia in design and construction of fatal weapons and war machines. He is a world famous painter and one of the best of the renaissance. Leonardo had a great range of studies, important geology work, and many great feats of astrological advancements.
Leonardo studied things such as
geology
zoology
architecture
civil engineering
anatomy
geography
astronomy
and paleontology(study of prehistoric life).
Leonardo was an expert on Geology, he was able to solve problems that no one else could. For example he was able to solve the problem of how sea shells were found atop a mountain. One theory was that the biblical flood had put them there. But, Leonardo shot down that theory by saying that if there waws a global flood the would be no place for the water to recede to. Another theory said that the shell crawled up the mountain and Leonardo said this
"such an opinion cannot exist in a brain of much reason; because here are the years of their growth, numbered on their shells, and there are large and small ones to be seen which could not have grown without food, and could not have fed without motion -- and here they could not move."
Leonardo da Vinci's advancements in astronomy still amaze scientists today. For example Earthshine was figured out by da Vinci himself. If you see a Crescent moon and you look between the two tips you can still see the outline of the moon whole moon. This is called Earthshine and Leonardo figured this out in the 16th century. He said
"Of the Moon: No Solid Body is Lighter than Air." Leonardo believed that the moon had oceans and an atmosphere and he believed the glow of Earthshine was caused by the reflection of light off Earth's Oceans
The Moon doesn't have any oceans
the reflection of light came from the clouds not the sea.
